Mariel Ansion
M.C. (she/her)
Registered Psychologist
Mariel Ansion is a registered psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologist, and a member of the Psychologist Association of Alberta. She completed her master’s degree in counselling psychology at the University of Alberta.
She first specialized in cross-cultural counselling. Through her work with immigrants and refugees she discovered her passion for working with trauma and took more specialized training such as EMDR and ART. Since 2020 she has been working with public service personnel such as EMS, Fire, police, and veterans supporting them process work-related trauma.
When working with adults and youth Mariel uses a client-centered approach combining different evidence-based practices to best match the needs of the person. She also uses humour as part of creating a safe space and releasing some of the tension clients often experience. She practices from a caring, empathetic, non-judgmental perspective and sees her role as a facilitator of the healing process, with the client being the protagonist of their own healing.
She also has a passion for working with children under 5 years old. When working with young children she works collaboratively with their caregivers from an attachment-based approach, combining sessions where they all participate in the activities and sessions with the caregivers alone where she supports them with parenting strategies and ways to support the child at home.
