Farial Ali

M.S.W. (she/her)

Registered Social Worker

Farial Ali is a Registered Social Worker in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Worker and Social Service Workers. She holds a Bachelor of Social Work degree from Ryerson University (a.k.a. Toronto Metropolitan University) rooted in anti-oppression and holds a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Toronto, mental health specialization. Farial has over 9 years of experience working with adults in various community and hospital mental health programs and 8 years providing counselling services. She spent 5 years working as a crisis worker to help address and prevent the acuity of community mental health. Farial worked alongside Peel Regional Police and Ontario Provincial Police for 3 years and then transitioned as a crisis worker to the emergency departments of Trillium Health Partners. As a result of repeatedly witnessing firsthand the operational stress injuries that police and other first responders experienced, Farial pursued further training in trauma-focused psychotherapy to help address the psychological injuries of first responders (police, fire, paramedics, dispatchers, nurses, correctional officers, etc.) and passionately advocate to end stigma that still surrounds mental health, especially in these professions.

Since therapeutic alliance is the number one factor that makes therapy effective and change transformative, Farial helps to foster an environment of safety, respect, support, and validation. She values therapy that is strengths-based, evidence-based, nonjudgmental, and collaborative.
