Amy Van Deurzen
M.Ed. (she/her)
Registered Psychologist
Amy is a Registered Psychologist in Alberta, and completed her Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) and Bachelor of Education (Social Studies) at the University of Lethbridge. Although working with teenagers and young adults in an educational setting was rewarding, teaching did not allow her to work with people in quite the way she wanted. Amy discovered her true calling was to work in a more direct, hands-on way to help people further their own personal wellness, development, growth, and healing. For this reason, she returned to the University of Lethbridge to complete her Master of Education degree in Counselling Psychology.
Amy has worked as a therapist in schools, non-profit organizations, a post-secondary institution, and private practice. She strives to create a safe and collaborative therapeutic environment with clients, which includes acknowledging clients’ strengths and non-judgmentally listening to their experiences. Amy believes that the therapeutic relationship is foundational to the healing process. As such, she makes efforts to tailor the counselling process to clients’ specific needs by offering evidence-based strategies. Most recently working as a therapist and supervisor, she has specialized training, skills, and practice working with individuals who have experienced sexual abuse/violence and trauma.
